Dain was one of the first dwarves created by the gods.

Accordinf to the Hyndluljoth he and Nabbi were the creators of the boar Hildisvini ("Battle-Swine").

The elf Dain was the chief of the Elves (after Freyr).
Dain was only mentiod in the Hovamol as being one of the race of the elves.
